This is a secretary / bureau/ desk made in England, circa 1780. The top and the fall have a rosewood banding with a string inlay of satinwood and Satin Mahogany in the interior of the surface. All 5 of the drawers and both the right and left sides have a rosewood banding with a string inlay of ebony and satinwood followed with satin mahogany on the interior. The secretary front falls to reveal a green tooled leather writing surface. The beautifully fitted interior of the secretary consists of 4 drawers on the right and left with 3 drawers and 3 cubby holes next and a highly inlaid cupboard door to the middle. The 2 long drawers over the cubby holes have Blind Chippendale Fretwork. All of the other drawers are banded in Satinwood. The cupboard door opens and shows 2 drawers, each with satinwood banding.
The solid brass hardware appears to be original. The Secretary rest on a set of well formed original bracket feet. The original keys to the Secretary are with it and the locks still work. The finish and overall condition is simply fabulous. This is as good as it gets. It measures 38 1/2 in. wide x 22 1/2 in. deep x 41 1/2 in. tall.
