A stunning and most impressive English mid 19th century George II st. giltwood and Brèche Verte marble console in the manner of William Kent. The unique freestanding console is raised by six elegant cabriole legs with beautiful scrolled feet and block supports decorated with striking carved overlapping and fish scale designs with richly carved acanthus leaves. The legs are connected by impressive richly carved oak leaf and acorn swaging garlands with an exquisite scrolled acanthus leaf seashell reserve at the center. Above each leg are fine Fleur de Lys like reserves flanking superb mirrored Vitruvian scrolls at the straight apron. Above is the original statement making two inch thick Brèche Verte marble top with cut corners and wonderfully sculpted protrusions and masterfully fitted within a fine mottled and foliate border.
