A fine Gillows, George III English mahogany serpentine dressing commode with shaped top surmounting a top drawer with green leather and gold leaf top drawer that pulls out to convert to a desk, enclosing a divided interior with four lidded compartments, and a small side drawer, above three further long graduated drawers on slender molded feet. Framed triple paneled chamfered backboards. The pattern of this chest conforms to a design for a dressing commode by Gillows of Lancaster made by Thomas Briscoe. Very good overall condition, with minor edge imperfections, minor surface scratches, refinished surface, and wear commensurate with age and use. Dimensions: 40 in H X 34 in W X 20.5 in D.
